The REMC Instructional Technology Specialists have created an assessment bank of questions for schools to use the spring of 2008. There are two test banks that have been created so that schools can pre and post test if they choose. The questions are available in Word, RTF, Blackboard, and ExamView format. To obtain a copy of the questions for use in your district, contact your local REMC.

The RITS group also has been working on performance based assessments.

Oakland Schools received a grant through the Department of Education to continue work on Using Technology in Career Exploration.

Using Technology in Career Exploration integrates core academics, the Michigan Educational Technology Standards, information literarcy, 21st century skills, and career development.

This curricular unit is designed to meet three requirements:
  • the 6th-8th grade Michigan Educational Technology Standards (METS) and
  • the 8th grade Education Development Plan (EDP) requirements using Career Cruising while
  • incorporating online learning experiences.

The Challenges:

  • Student technology skills need to be developed and/or improved for students to be technologically literate by 8th grade (NCLB).
  • Each student needs to have a completed EDP (Education YES!).
  • Students need to demonstrate skills aligned with Michigan curriculum standards.

There are eleven modules that comprise the Using Technology in Career Exploration curriculum. Currently the grant is paying for the modules to be put in Blackboard and Moodle so schools can access the entire curriculum online and add their own content if they wish.

8th Grade Educational Technology Performance-Based Assessment Tasks & Rubrics - Lenawee County
Educators in Lenawee County have developed
authentic assessment tasks to address each of the 38 middle school benchmarks in educational technology. These tasks provide an exemplar tool for teachers to measure student progress against the benchmarks. Rubrics can be used to measure a student's technology proficiency through an authentic task, and are generic enough, in most cases, to be used in any content area in which technology is being integrated into the classroom curriculum. Each assessment task takes the form of an extended written response, a performance, or a personal communication, allowing the student to demonstrate deeper understanding of the content.
